An Offer They Can’t Refuse?
A player will find themselves in one of two situations when their NHL contract expires, either an unrestricted free agent (UFA) or restricted free agent (RFA). UFAs have the ability of select from among the teams who have offered a new contract. However, this luxury is only tendered to players who meet the minimum age and/or service requirements. For those classified as RFAs, the ability to negotiate is much more limited. Check out the link as the rights for an RFA are explained. >
