How College Athletes Are Getting Paid

The first full year of collegiate athletics has now passed since the implementation of the new NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) guidelines. The policy changes were instituted following the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling in “NCAA v. Alston”. The judgment determined that the NCAA was not legally allowed to limit any education-related payments to students. NIL gives players the right to publicity that ordinary citizens already have, but that the NCAA previously did not allow.
